  3. Wichita Falls Parks & Recreation: Canine Courses Session 5

    The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test will receive a copy of the test which may be submitted to the American Kennel Club, with appropriate fees, for an official CGC certificate. Handlers will learn a variety of training skills to help build a better relationship with their dog. Skill include: walking on a leash, teaching the dog to sit, down, and stay when asked. The handler will be shown humane ways to redirect unwanted behavior in their dogs.

    Join the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District to celebrate World Diabetes Day. More than 30 million people in the United States have Diabetes. Surprisingly, 1 in 4 don't know they have it. The purpose of the walk is to celebrate World Diabetes Day. Through this walk, they hope to raise awareness and advocate for those with diabetes. There will be a 5K, 1 mile, and 1 K. Both runners and walkers are welcome. The course is a well marked out and back on the circle trail.

    ElectriCritters, River Bend Nature Center's annual lighted Christmas display will be open every Friday and Saturday (Closed for November 17th). With the flip of a switch, more than 60,000 lights on more than 155 lighted displays will glitter and sparkle, bringing the sights and sounds of the season to adults and children. Santa, Mrs. Clause, and the Butterfly Queen will make an appearance each night. After exploring the lighted grounds come on into the Candy Cane Cafe and enjoy hot chocolate and apple cider, feast on hot cookies and popcorn, and shop for holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. River Bend is a stroller and wheelchair accessible. ElectriCritters is the major fundraiser for River Bend Nature Center. Proceeds help fund education programs enjoyed by over 44,000 children and adults of our community each year.
