Chief Melton holds numerous certifications through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, including Master Structural Firefighter, Instructor III, Plans Examiner, Master Fire Investigator, Arson Investigator, Master Fire Inspector, Fire Marshal, and Fire Officer III. In October 2019, he graduated from the Texas Fire Chief’s Academy with the distinguished designation of Certified Fire Executive. His professional development also includes completing Fire Executive Management Training at the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) at Sam Houston State University. Additionally, he is a certified Peace Officer through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Chief Melton’s academic endeavors include earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Texas in 2009 and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Texas A&M International in 2022. He is also recognized as a Certified Fire Marshal through the International Code Council.
As Fire Chief, he remains dedicated to enhancing fire service operations, prioritizing firefighter training and safety, and strengthening community engagement to ensure the highest level of service to Wichita Falls and its residents.
