Role of Municipal Court

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over Class C misdemeanors, traffic offenses, and violations of the Code of Ordinances that occur in the city limits of the City of Wichita Falls. The court is presided over by a full-time municipal judge who is appointed by the Wichita Falls City Council for a specified term.  Four associate judges are also appointed to hear cases when the presiding judge is unavailable.
The City Attorney’s Office, through the Municipal Court Prosecutor, initiates and prosecutes all cases in Municipal Court. The Court Administrator is appointed by the City Manager to oversee the court clerks and warrant officers and manage the physical facilities of the Court.
