1. What diseases do I report?

Any disease process listed in “Reportable Diseases/Conditions in Texas”.

2. Under HIPAA regulation, can I, as a MD, release medical records of a private patient without signed consent?

Section 164,512 (b) of HIPAA privacy standards allows for disclosure of private medical documents used to prevent and control disease in a community by the public health authority – (copy of standard can be obtained on request).

3. How do I go about reporting?

Method of reporting and forms to report are listed in “Reportable Diseases/Conditions in Texas”, and are available upon request.

4. I thought my medical records were private and confidential?

Your records are private and confidential, but when diseases is found to be of communicable nature, these diseases are reported to the dept. of state health services and flowed up by the local health authority to investigate in order to prevent and control the spread of disease. Investigations are performed by nursing staff and held in strictest of confidence.

5. Who told you about my “condition”, it is none of your business?

By state law- diseases considered contagious and which could effect the public are reportable to Texas Department of State Health Services and to the local public health authority.

6. If after hours I need to report a common disease what do I do?

Immediate reportable 940-761-7800, for other reportable call the public health dept 940-761-7848 Monday-Friday, 8:00 am -5:00 pm.

7. My child has been sent home from school (daycare) for lice several times. Can you do something about this?

No. Lice is not a reportable disease. Please contact your school nurse or daycare provider and discuss treatment protocols.

8. My daughter’s friend was diagnosed with an condition. Does she need to be concerned?

An investigation will be completed by our nursing staff. If the disease is formed to be at risk, you will be contacted to bring her in for prophylactic treatment or referred to your private physician.

9. One of my co-workers has Hepatitis C and we work in a food establishment. Can he be working?

Yes. You cannot catch Hepatitis C from someone waiting on you or preparing your food. Hepatitis C is a blood borne pathogen. For more info, you may go to "http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/c/fact/htm"

10. Do you see adults in your Dental Clinincs?

No. We see only Medicaid, Title V, and CHIPS Program, ages 1-21 years.

11. Can we make an afternoon appointment for this clinic?

No. The clinic is only heald from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.

12. Can I make an appointment for Monday?

No. We only see clients in this clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays and every 4th Friday.

13. Is there a charge for this service?

No, because we only see Medicaid and Title V patients.

14. Where can I go if you don't see adults?

The Community Health Care Center, Family Health Care Center, or check the local yellow pages.

15. Do you do sports physicals in the Child Health clinic?

If it is time for a total health screening and they are an exisiting client.

16. What types of insurance do you take?

We take Medicaid and Title V. Others may pay on a sliding scale, based upon income.

17. Does the Clinic do sick visits?

If the Health District is the primary provider on Medicaid.

18. How long does a visit take?

Anywhere from 2-4 hours.

19. Do you see adults?

No, only children, birth to age 21.

20. Do I need an appointment for the Sexually Transmitted Disease clinic?

No, it is first come, first served. However, the clinic is limited to 10 clients per clinic, so try to come early.

21. If I have something, why can't you just give me the medicine?

In order to properly diagnose and treat you, we need to run a few tests first to determine exactly what we need to treat for.

22. What is the cost of the STD clinic?

The fee for this clinic is based on a sliding scale based on income.

23. How long will my visit take?

It varies, depending upon the number of clients and when you signed up. Normally, 1-3 hours is usual.

24. What will you be testing me for?

Testing varies from individual to individual. We will test you based upon your clinical symptoms and compalints.

25. Can I pick up my results?

Due to confidentiality, you will be given a number and must call in for the results and give that number. If you loose the number, you must come in person with a picture ID.

26. I've been raped. Can you test me?

No. We do not perform testing for rape victims.
